Richard S.
Granat is the
founder and CEO of DirectLaw, Inc., and Epoq US, Inc., a Maryland attorney with over
30 years of legal experience, and a nationally-recognized expert in
self-representation, legal technology, paralegal utilization, and
the delivery of legal services. Mr. Granat is an
authority on the concept of "pro se"
representation, its limits
and its potential for providing access to the legal system. He is a member of
the Maryland and District of Columbia Bars and the author of "How to Do
Your Own Divorce in Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia."
Richard is a member of the Maryland and District of Columbia Bar
and Co-Chairperson of the ABA Task Force on Lawyers
Serving Society Through Technology. Mr. Granat also serves as the Director
of the Center for Law Practice
Technology, Inc., and was previously the President and Dean of the Philadelphia Institute for Paralegal Training, the
nation's first paralegal educational institution where he pioneered the role of the legal
assistant as a new career role within the legal profession. Mr. Granat also served
as a member of the initial working group at the U.S. Office of Economic
Opportunity that created the National Legal Services Program.
Mr. Granat is a graduate of
Columbia University School of Law (J.D.); the University of Pennsylvania, (M.S.);
and Lehigh University. (B.A.).
